Cross Country: The Essence of it All

Photo by Erin Rielly With the conclusion of the 2009 Cross Country season for BHS, I’ve learned a very valuable lesson. Our meet this past Saturday was one of epic proportions; hard, pouring rain and muddy, wet puddles at every path. You’d figure they’d cancel a meet like that because of the weather, but that just wasn’t it. We ran through it with all efforts possible. Going through the puddles where the water is going up to our quads and getting dirt kicked into your face as if it was nothing. I think we all learned a very important lesson there. “When it rain, it pours”. ...

OwnagePranks - Comedic Controversy

Prank calls are something people do at least once in their lives, correct? Not everyone does it, I know, but it’s always something funny to do. I remember the first and last one I did. Except it wasn’t that funny because the person I called apparently had my home phone number. Talk about creepy. Nonetheless, prank calls are fun. I personally enjoy listening other people make prank calls because some people are so innovative and how they improvise in certain situations to make things funny for their audience. As for my topic of the day, OwnagePranks is a user from YouTube who I think makes hilarious phone calls. He does live shows when he’s got the time, and has thousands of users listening in when he’s up and running. Recently over the last couple months of vacation, however, he’s rolled into a little bit of problems with the YouTube staff. ...

Ice Baths - Refreshing Stimulator

Ah, ice baths. Aren’t they great? Or painful rather. They’re just one of those things that you love or hate after a hard painful workout at some point of the day. You’re sore, you can barely walk, so you’re going down in one of those ice baths to ease the pain away, while feeling ice cold. I love ice baths. Of course, the first time you take a dip in it, it feels as if you just took a one way trip to amputation. Okay, that’s a little exaggerated, but still, you’d wish you weren’t in there. I was interested in writing this after reading a note on Facebook by Jesse Faller. I was bored enough to stumble across it on Facebook and found a passage he said about ice baths. Here’s what he said, ...

“Captain” - A Title for An Unneeded Call for Action?

The term “captain” has been a subject of debate since I’ve started high school athletics. It all started with my Track & Field coach, Matthew Carr. His belief with the term “captain” was that it should never exist with sports teams. Being a captain means nothing. You just have this title. It’s something that goes with your name as you’re competing with your team. Sure, it does look good in a college application, but to the coach, someone doesn’t need to be named a captain to lead a team. ...
